www.read-that.com book reviews

Morgan Rowlands is a sixteen year old who feels that she maybe smart but is lacking when it comes to maturity in a woman’s sense. She doesn’t feel very pretty or have any chest but she has a couple true friends who are always there for her and everything seems to be going good. That is until a mysteriously great looking guy comes to school. His name is Cal Blaire. He came right up to Morgan and her best friend, Bree to ask where the office was. Morgan lost her breath. She is usually shy around boys and never even been kissed but the emotions that she got when Cal was talking to her were surreal. Over the next couple of days, Cal seemed to talk to everyone and anyone. It seemed that he just fit in anywhere. When he came up to talk to Bree and Morgan, he was talking about getting together for a party that he wanted to have and was inviting them. Morgan couldn’t believe how she was feeling and of course Bree was out for him too. Morgan didn’t have the heart to tell her that she wanted him too but instead gave her blessing to Bree. Bree shortly broke up with her boyfriend and was after Cal. Cal would always come up and talk to Morgan though and the jealousy that Bree had was one sided.

It turned out that Cal was Wiccan and wanted a new coven and since he just moved here, he was trying to get some others to open their minds to it. He seemed too good to be true. Of course, at the party they all formed a circle and those that weren’t into it weren’t asked back again but Morgan felt exhilarated during the circle so much so that she wanted to do it again and again. Cal said that she was just sensitive to the power of a circle and therefore it affected her more than the others. Bree was even more jealous.

When it came time for Bree to make her move on Cal, he didn’t seem interested. His interest lied elsewhere, on Morgan. Bree decided that she had to have Cal at all costs and wanted Morgan out of the way, so she told Morgan to stop coming to the circles. Morgan couldn’t believe that her best friend since Kindergarten would choose a boy over their friendship but that’s what happened. Since Morgan really wanted to go to the circles even after fighting with her mom about having a book on Wicca around. She was going to do it in secret now. When Cal kissed Morgan at the next circle, Bree was so furious. With their friendship gone, having a new boyfriend, and learning a new secret that will devastate her life as she knows it, happens all at once, Morgan is torn apart.

You would be surprised how hard it is to tell someone about a book but not too much. You want them interested but you don’t want to give it all away either. It is a fine line to write on. I had to make this review shorter than I wanted to because I didn’t want to give anything away. I am so looking forward to reading more on this series. I really got into this book. I actually picked it up the other day thinking that I liked the authors name. I wasn’t sure if I could really get into it or not until about page 7. Once they started the Wiccan circles, I was hooked. I enjoyed the smooth way the author told Morgan’s story and the way everything come together. There was so many twists and turns that you stay on your toes even though this is about a teenager. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. Gotta make a trip to the book store. Hope you will enjoy it as well.
