Five children disappear in the middle of the night and it seems like they just vanish. Three of those kids know what’s going on but the other two have memories planted into their brains about their whole life but it’s all a lie. Christian is one of the unknown and he seems to thrive on winning at everything. The governess of the house that takes care of them, Madame Vileroy, has given each of them a gift. Christian has received a chamber that he sleeps in that helps him to be better than everyone else in sports. Victoria is one that knows what has happened and she received the gift of winning at everything academic whether honestly or deceptively. Valentin is another one that knows what the score is and he is able to reverse time and repeat whatever he wishes. Belle and Bice are twins but you can’t tell anymore. It seems that Belle has the gift of being gorgeous but on the downside, she has a terrible stench that she is unable to hide. Bice is the other unknown and her gift has been to stop time so she could hide from everyone and learn all the languages she wants. Valentin, Belle, and Victoria have sold their souls to the devil to receive what they wanted more than anything. Christian wanted to but changed his mind once he got there. Bice was just a tagalong that Belle couldn’t leave behind, so she got sucked into it as well. The children enroll into the elite Manhattan Marlowe School and everything starts to come apart.

I really didn’t understand this book very well. Some parts I got but mainly I was confused. I was able to finish it. The ending really threw me for a loop and it stretches the imagination to an extreme level but I did finish it. I wouldn’t read it again or recommend it. The cover is intriguing as well as the summary. I guess I just don’t like to read something that makes me feel confused or stupid. I have read worse but I still wouldn’t recommend this one. If you’ve read this and have a different opinion about it, let me know. I would love to hear another opinion. I don’t like to give a bad review but I have to give an honest review. This book didn’t make the cut. I only finished this one because I kept trying to understand and plus I hate to not finish something. I would give it a 2 out of 5 stars. Not my cup of tea
