Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series #5

Anita Blake is one bad vampire slayer. The vampires in St. Louis call her the Executioner. She also raises zombies, that’s her day job. She heads out of town with Larry, her apprentice, to raise some two hundred year old zombies for some rich guy. She gets there and has nothing but trouble. The graveyard is all bulldozed up and there are too many dead and too old for her to raise them easily. Raymond is kinda fishing from the get go so Anita has her guard up as to why he has to have this mountain for his hotel. Too many secrets about that. The police call her in on a preternatural case close to where she is. Bringing Larry again to a crime scene isn’t what Anita wants. There is too much blood and he’s too innocent. She would prefer him to stay that way too. A family’s daughter was bitten and died in her bed so Anita was to stake her. The parents were really religious and didn’t want her soul to be jeopardized. Of course she wanted to wait because once before she did that and the dad wanted her to undo it. So she decided to wait for 24 hours and make sure that no one changed their minds. The vampire that did that was hiding near so they decide to go after it. Things go so wrong. She winds up having to call Jean Claude to help her with the Master in that territory.

Jean Claude comes down with Jason, a werewolf as his pet so they could make a statement when they went to see the Master. Things don’t go so well there either. I don’t think that Anita ever has a day that she can do nothing and relax but that wouldn’t make for a very good story huh?

I really enjoyed this book. I love all this series. I must say again that this is an ADULT book and really isn’t for the younger readers. I wouldn’t let my kids read any of this series. There aren’t as many explicit content in this one as much as blood and violence. But don’t let that get you down since it still is worth your time in reading. Hamilton has a unique style of writing that I enjoy so much. I don’t have to really read it. I just open the book and everything comes alive. I have read this series more than once and enjoyed it every time.

Definitely recommended!
