Anita Blake Vampire Hunter #11

Anita has been busy raising the dead while the vampires of St. Louis done their politics. They have been negotiating a visit between one of Belle Morte’s line and the Master of the City. Of course Musette shows up early with her entourage and the deadly games begin. Maybe not deadly for some. Anita and Jean Claude have to show a united front but aren’t sure how with the third of their triumvirate, Richard, the local Ulfric (werewolf king). He decided that Anita was more comfortable with the monsters than he is, so they broke off their relationship. The relationship between Anita, Jean Claude, and Asher seems to be going somewhere if their emotional hangups will let them. With Musette playing her games with all of them, especially Asher things are getting out of control. Belle Morte, the sourdre de sang of Jean Claude and Asher both can take over Musette’s body and played many games. I hate to be so vague on the details but I also don’t want to give anything away.

There are assassins in town and they are following Anita for some reason. Also there is a shape-shifter that is terrorizing women before ripping them to pieces and Anita, with the help of RPIT are investigating all angles to figure out who is doing it. Jason was able to tell that the werewolf wasn’t a member of the local pack. Jason just happen to drive Anita to a crime scene when she was too sick to drive herself. He couldn’t stay outside with the reporters but wasn’t allowed around the house since he was a werewolf too. But he was able to smell that the culprit wasn’t part of their pack.

Having a hard time with this review. Not that it wasn’t a great book because it was but I can’t give out enough details for a full review without revealing a lot of the story itself. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this one. I really enjoyed getting to know Jason better. He’s much more than a stripper and Jean Claude’s pomme de sang. He has a great personality when he isn’t flaunting himself for Anita. These characters are wonderful and the way that Hamilton makes them come together really makes her top notch in my book. From werewolves slaughtering victims to vampire politics to Anita’s emotional boyfriends. I laughed and I cried.

Again I have to caution those that would read this that Anita’s ardour isn’t for kids. Hamilton has a steamy imagination that is great for adults but not for kids. The ardour is similar to the vampire’s blood lust except that it is lust. Anita has to feed off of sex. With that said, you be the judge.I recommend this one wholeheartedly. Happy Reading!
