Anita Blake is the local vampire executioner,   Bolverk and Lupa for the local werewolf clan, and also human servant to the Master of the City in St. Louis. Not really in that order. She also has her very own triumvirate with Damien as her vampire servant and Nathaniel as her leopard to call. And last but not at all least she is Nimir Ra to the leopard pard. She carries the ardeur from Jean Claude’s vampire marks which means she has to feed so often on sex or start draining the life force of her triumvirate.

A friend calls her to take a job in Philly raising a zombie for the FBI. Even though she hates to fly, she would do almost anything for Larry. Micah, Nimir Raj to her Nimir Ra (king to queen) for the local leopard pard insists on going along as an assistant. She has to keep at least one of her guys with her in case the ardeur needs to be fed. Instead of getting out of hand with a bunch of Feds, Micah gets to go. With Micah making all the arrangements, Anita got to placate Nathaniel about not getting to go. After saying goodbye to him and on their way did Micah mention that this is the first time that they have actually been alone for more than a couple hours. Of course that makes Anita more scared of what this means and her emotional level spikes. Not only that but when they meet the Feds, one can’t get along with Anita, but she has no idea why. The other Fed that met them was one from Micah’s past. Anita wanted to know what the deal was but didn’t want to say anything in front of the Feds so she dropped it.

Micah wanted some romantic time since he was getting Anita alone for just the night. He booked them into a really nice hotel but after walking in the door their emotions were on overdrive. Anita didn’t understand why she was so upset about the room and just being alone with him and Micah was upset because Anita didn’t ask what was up with Special Agent Fox. They both decided to talk things out and eating before feeding the ardeur and then taking on the zombie that the Feds wanted raised.

I loved this book. Micah is my favorite character in this series. I enjoyed learning how he became a lycanthrope and that he had siblings. His feelings for Anita run deep but I didn’t realize how deep until this book. I could just picture the zombie that she raised. It was so easy to read and to put you into her world of Anita Blake. The only complaint I had, even after reading this whole series 4 times, this book isn’t long enough. I could read just about Anita, Micah, and Nathaniel for hours and hours. Again Two Thumbs Up!
