The Morganville Vampires

Claire is enjoying living it up in the Glass House with her two roommates and her new boyfriend. Of course her roommates aren’t normal really. Eve is really into Michael and into goth. Michael was killed in the house that he lives in now and can’t seem to leave it. Also he dies at dawn like a real vampire. I guess in a way he is a ghost that has to stay where the house could contain him. The only one that knows is Claire and Michael doesn’t want the others to know. He isn’t sure what Eve or Shane would think about him then. Shane is so cute and also Claire’s boyfriend. Her first real boyfriend. He is the first boy that pays real attention to Claire and looks at her not as a friend or a little sister but as a true companion. He also refuses to pressure her into sex or anything that she doesn’t want to do. She sometimes wonders if he’s just a good guy or she’s just too young for now. Whatever comes, she knows that he means more to her than anyone else and he feels the same for her. That’s what counts for now.

Morganville has a different lifestyle about it than any other city. This city is full of vampires. It seems that you are either devoted to donating blood and becoming protected or being on your own. Those at the Glass House are unprotected unless they are in the house. For some reason the house protects them. While Claire wants to continue her education, she can’t seem to get away from the girls who keep starting trouble with her. It seems that trouble follows her around. Claire can’t rely on Michael since he can’t leave the house. She can’t rely on Eve and Shane either for everything so she decides to find what the vampires want the most and trade it to them for protection against everyone else. While her plans seems well, things don’t turn out the way she planned.

I enjoyed this change of pace from my normal reading materials. Don’t get me wrong, you can’t beat some of the books that are my faves. But I have relished the fresh change in pace. Enjoyed the characters well. Shane was a treat to learn about as well as Michael’s predicament and Eve’s difference in taste with clothes as well as attitude. Very Refreshing and Enjoyable!

The Morganville Vampires

Volume 1

Claire Danvers is a sixteen almost seventeen girl who got advanced placement in college. The little Texas town of Morganville isn’t much but she is getting her dream on going to college and she has hopes to transfer in two years to MIT or Cal Tech. All her dreams are not becoming reality though. She seems to catch the negative attention of a gaggle of girls that aren’t nice. Monica Morrell is a beautiful girl that has major attitude. After Claire had opened her big mouth to correct Monica about history and make a fool out of her, things really got bad. The torment wasn’t what Claire had in mind when she wanted to go to college. She wanted out of the dorm but didn’t know where to go or what she could possibly do.

After the final straw of being pushed down the stairs by Monica and her gang, Claire found an ad looking for a roommate. She figured there wasn’t anything to lose so she went over there to meet them. There were three to meet. Eve was nice but weird in a goth wearing but moody way. Shane was totally hot and seemed nice enough but she had to wait until later to talk to Michael. Michael owned the house.

This book might be written for teens but I am an adult (sometimes) and I really enjoyed it. The kids are funny, smart, and have a way of making trouble. Especially when Claire realizes what really exists in Morganville. The plot of this adventure had me turning page after page. I can’t wait to read the next in the series. Caine makes it really easy to read without seeming to. She also takes time to bring out the emotions of every character. I like that in a book. There is a new twist on vampires in this series but one that I like. You won’t be able to put it down. If you can, then you haven’t been reading what I have. Enjoy!
