Hathaway, a dhampir sworn to protect her against the bad vampires. The bad vampires are known as Strigoi. A strigoi doesn’t have a soul since they either were turned by another strigoi or have drank enough blood to kill another. Moroi have the strongest blood which is why they need protected from the Strigoi.

Something was happening at the Academy to Lissa so Rose took her away. They were able to stay away for 2 years until the guardians from the school were sent to catch them. Now back at school in trouble and failing to keep ahead with all the training, Rose has been given a mentor- Dimitri. Dimitri is considered among the student guardians, a god. He can do anything. Rose is instantly attracted to him but he is a fellow guardian and he’s been given to Lissa as her guardian.

Enjoy the beginning of this series. Mead puts your imagination to rest and allows you to go into this world of moroi and strigoi with ease. She really gets you started in this series and doesn’t let you go until the end. The start of most series had a boring part towards the beginning where you have to get to know the characters. Mead just flows through all the characters and the beginning of the plot with ease and doesn’t bore you at all.

Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, a mix of a Moroi (good vampire) and another dhampir. She is also a guardian. She goes to school at the Vampire Academy so she can graduate and protect her Moroi best friend. Lissa is the last of her line of Dragomir. All her life she has been taught that only Moroi matter and to focus on protecting them at the cost of a guardian’s own life. Dhampirs need Moroi to keep having kids, since dhampirs together cannot. Strigoi are evil. They’re strong, they’re fast, and they kill without mercy or hesitation, and they’re immortal. There are only three ways to kill a strigoi – decapitation, a silver stake through the heart, or setting them on fire. Not easy but it can be done. A Moroi can become a strigoi in two different ways, willingly killing someone by draining their blood, or being turned by another strigoi. Once a Moroi becomes a Strigoi their magic is gone. A Moroi has the power to weild magic in each of the four elements- earth, air, fire, and water. Lissa wields spirit which is all 4 together I guess. Not many people know about spirit so we play the guessing game.

After a strigoi attack puts the whole Academy on alert, Rose’s mother comes to the school. Rose doesn’t really know her mother since she grew up at the Academy and her mother was working to protect her Moroi charge. Yes, Rose’s mother is a guardian.

Now Rose has to contend with her motherand have her mentor and secret love’s, Dimitri, eyes on another, plus another boy vying for her attention. Not to forget gettting sucked into Lissa’s mind when she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian. What a rush.

I think this is one of my favorites from this series. You meet Adrian (who I really like), you finally see an attack from strigoi and with this being the second of the series, the characters are more in depth. You will grow to like them or hate them even more. Rose seems like any normal girl in this boy situation. Girls can relate to that of course. Mead’s style of writing is phenominal. She can draw you in before you know what hit you. A definite A+ for the whole series.

Rose Hathaway is a Guardian or almost one. She attends the Vampire Academy in Montana trying to become more prepared to guard the last Dragomir Princess and her best friend, Lissa. Things aren’t always so easy though. A fellow guardian and also her mentor is the love of her life. Two guardians cannot be together for obvious reasons but Rose can’t stop thinking of Dimitri.

Killing Strigoi(undead dead without a soul) to save Moroi ( vampires with a soul) is what a guardian is made for. Rose isn’t her usual self after killing her first Strigoi. Following her heart could lose her best friend forever or could it. Lying to Lissa about Dimitri has been hard enough but now there are other things standing in their way.

Of course you have to read them all to get the effect I got. I couldn’t put them down. I do believe I could read just one and still understand the story but not get the full effect. I love this series. Dimitri and Adrian are two different guys wanting Rose’s attention and going about it in totally different ways. Christian is a sweet boy that is misunderstood by everyone else. So many characters brought to life and loved in this group of books that it leaves you begging for more.

Ahhhhhh Dimitri Belikov!!

Rose Hathaway is a guardian stuck between finishing school and guarding the last Dragomir Princess Lissa or fulfilling a promise the love of her life.

The Academy faced a battle with Strigoi, which is vampires who have given up their soul, decimating their guardians. Many dead and gone and some victims were carried away. Among the ones taken, Rose’s true love and fellow guardian, Dimitri. Rose must decide to stay with Lissa or leave to find Dimitri. The world thought that he was dead and in a way he is. Rose and Dimitri made a promise to each other that they would rather die than come back as a Strigoi. So she drops out of the Academy and runs across the world to find him. She worries if she could actually kill her equal or if he would even want to be saved.

Definitely a must for Academy fans who have fallen in love with Rose, Lissa, Christian, Dimitri and of course Adrian.

I love these characters and couldn’t wait for this book, especially since Shadow Kiss ended as a cliffhanger. I had to find out about Dimitri. I cried when I found out he was turned Strigoi. He and Rose were just polishing up their relationship and figuring out how things would work. Rose is sworn to kill Strigoi but can she do it with the man of her dreams? It didn’t take me long to finish this work of art and I had to read it again. The author Mead really draws you into the characters and makes them come alive. I felt what Rose felt. It was amazing. I definately recommend this whole series and can’t wait for more.
