Richard Cypher is a woods guide. He seems to be well tempered and well liked by others. He liked to be by himself or with his best friend, Zedd. Zedd has a secret that Richard doesn’t know but Richard has one too. Things start to take a turn for worse when Richard’s father, George is killed in a gruesome manner. Richard’s brother, Michael, is the first counselor of the area and tells Richard that he will take care of finding who killed their father. Of course, Richard has to do something.

His father took him out everyday to read a book of magic. He wasn’t supposed to tell anyone about it or what it said. When Richard could write down the words to the book without any mistake, his father and himself took it out to burn it. While the book was burning, that was the first time Richard had seen magic. Through events he has no idea of in the future, it won’t be his last.

While out in the woods looking for any clue to his father’s murder, he came across a woman being chased by four men. He decided to help her since he was getting nowhere doing what he was. Her name was Kahlan and she was from the Midlands. The Midlands was on the other side of the boundary from Westland. There was people of magic on the other side. She told him that she was looking for the First Wizard and hoped with his help, they could defeat a man named Darken Rahl. Darken Rahl was the leader of D’Hara, on the other side of the boundary. The boundary between D’Hara and Midlands is no more. When they defeated the men hunting Kahlan, he took her to see Zedd. If anyone could help her, it would be Zedd. When Zedd saw Kahlan, he knew who she was but not what she wanted from him. The two of them had their conversation while Richard was unconscious. He was pricked from a thorn that was alive in his hand and kept burrowing deeper and making him sick. Once he come out of his sickness, Richard found out that Zedd was the First Wizard. Zedd has been testing Richard his whole life and it seems for just this moment when he offered the Sword of Truth to Richard and named him the Seeker of Truth.

At once Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd took off to find Darken Rahl and stop him from taking over the world and to save those who have stood against him and would be destroyed. All those containing magic would be destroyed.

After many trying and difficult times such as going through the boundary and learning things he never thought to learn, Richard crosses into the Midlands, a world entirely different from his homeland.

Kahlan has never had a friend. She is the Mother Confessor and everyone is afraid of her. She doesn’t have the heart to tell Richard who or what she is for fear of losing his friendship but knows she must before someone else does.

Take an adventure through good times and bad, with magic and corruption, as you read the imagination of Terry Goodkind and his Sword of Truth Series. You won’t be regretful in the least. I absolutely love this book. Even though the author has to give you background into the characters and that seems boring to some, Goodkind does so effortlessly and with a passion that is very interesting to read. I couldn’t put it down.
